The Crimson Tide of Alabama is favored this week at the sports book website versus Mississippi but they may have to play devoid of leading wide receiver Julio Jones. This past week, Jones broke his left hand in the loss to South Carolina. He had surgery on Sunday to have a plate and screw inserted and his status for Saturday’s game against the Rebels is uncertain. Alabama is getting big points versus Ole Miss at the sports book so the loss of Jones may very well be critical.

Alabama is 20.5 point favorite at home versus Mississippi this week. Most people expect that the Crimson Tide will recover with a big game but it will likely be more challenging devoid of Jones. This past week he caught eight passes for 118 yards. He tops the team with 32 catches for 440 yards and 3 tds.

Jones was rated among the leading high school receivers in the nation and was nationally ranked as the #2 and #4 prospect by ESPN and Rivals.com respectively. He was additionally the leading ranked receiver by both. A lot of colleges wanted to recruit Jones and he declared his decision to commit to the Alabama Crimson Tide in February 2008. In his 1st year he was picked to the 2nd team All-SEC and the SEC Coaches’ All-Freshman team. Additionally he was the SEC Freshman of the Year. He has been dubbed “The Ocho” and “The Chosen One.” A year ago he was voted to the All-SEC Coaches’ Football Team and was one of merely four players to be voted to it unanimously (alongside with Tim Tebow). He was the foremost receiver for a team that finished 14-0 last season.

Bounce back? Will Alabama recover with a major effort this week? It is an intriguing question considering the Crimson Tide hasn’t been in this situation in a long time. They have not had to recover considering they never lose. It was their 1st regular seasons loss in 3 years. The Crimson Tide competed inadequately on offense and defense last week. Their running game did practically nothing as Mark Ingram ran for just 41 yards on 11 carries and Trent Richardson had six carries for 23 yards. Greg McElroy competed well and Jones was excellent but it was still a loss. Alabama is still averaging 37.8 points per game and 464 yards whilst the defense is still good but not fantastic.

Mississippi May Score – The Rebels can score. They have former Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and he might offer Alabama all sorts of trouble. He has thrown for 793 yards and run for another 219. The Rebels should put up some points but their defense is awful. They’re allowing 32 points and 364.8 yards per game. The point spread at the sports book website may very well be in play in this game since Ole Miss can score. They’re getting nearly 3 tds so this number at the sports book may very well be in play late on Saturday night. If you do not want to play a side you might want to take the total on this game at the internet sports book as neither defense seems able to halting the other squad’s offense.
