The strength of a team’s schedule can determine the NCAA football odds.

What should be recalled however is that deciding strength of schedule in NCAA football isn’t nearly as cut and dried as it is in the NFL. Turnover in college football is high and the college football odds are always altering.

As they look to defend their national title, NCAA football odds will probably prefer Alabama in every one of their games this season. Some squads this season will suffer because their slate is more challenging while some squads will benefit from a less difficult schedule than they had last season. We will take a look at a handful of both.

Kansas, Georgia, Oregon, Virginia Tech and Purdue are a few squads that may benefit this season from a less difficult schedule. The Hokies encounter Boise State in their starter and if they win that competition they may be a shocking team in the national title picture because their schedule is advantageous. Considering their schedule is easier than a year ago, Georgia is another team that may be an element. Since no schedule in the SEC is effortless, as it is the hardest conference in the country, that is fairly relative though. A team like Oregon who plays a vulnerable schedule in a vulnerable conference may do well. The Ducks three non-conference games are versus New Mexico, Portland State and a stressed Tennessee team. They encounter a watered down Pac-10 schedule after they win those games as they should.

It’s also important to take into account squads that may have difficulty because of a challenging schedule. Right at the top of that list is Penn State. The Nittany Lions are overblown with head coach Joe Paterno. He has not really won anything for years and his squads are overblown. This season the Nittany Lions encounter a difficult slate of games and may fall down this season. The Nittany Lions are not likely to win at Alabama, Iowa or Ohio State. Iowa State is another team who may struggle because their schedule is much more challenging this year than a year ago. The Cyclones have challenging out of conference games versus Utah and Iowa.

Take a look at the schedule for each team and how it has changed before you make your wagers in NCAA football this season.
